An anchored trawler sinks at Karnaphuli
An anchored fishing trawler capsized in the Karnaphuli River early yesterday.
The FV Crystal-8 was anchored near Shikalbaha, upstream from the third Karnaphuli bridge, said Mijanur Rahman, the officer in charge (OC) of the Sadarghat River Police Station.

There were no casualties during the incident as there was no one on board the trawler when it sank, the captain said, citing witnesses.
He could not confirm the exact time of the sinking and the reason behind it.
The ocean fishing trawler is owned by Hamida Doza Limited, a subsidiary of Crystal Group, the family business organization of former Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIC) President Murshed Murad Ibrahim.
Ibrahim, who is accused in two cases filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in connection with a Tk 275 crore loan scam to state-owned BASIC bank, now resides in Canada.
Citing locals, OC Mijanur said the trawler was anchored there three days ago, while some crew members have been seen working in recent days.
The crew left the trawler shortly before midnight and the trawler sank later, he said.
There were no reports of collisions in the area and the weather was calm that night, he said.
Mohammad Mominul Islam Bhuiyan, Police Superintendent (SP) of the River Police, Chattogram region, who visited the area in the afternoon, said they would investigate the incident.
Bangladesh Coast Guard East Area Staff Officer (Operation) Habibur Rahman said on information that a coast guard team had visited the scene at 6 a.m., but the trawler capsized completely before the team got there.
The spot is on the territory of Chattogram Port.
Chattogram Port Authority Secretary Md Omar Faruk said they would mark off the area with floating buoys.
They have already informed the Merchant Marine Department to investigate the matter.
