Experience the magic of the Holidays at the Nuits des Mille Bougies | Visit
Let’s talk romantic!
Last year alone, there were 25 marriage proposals at Brookgreen Gardens’ Nights of a Thousand Candles.
“But it’s not just for couples,” said Lauren Joseph, director of marketing and communications. “It’s for families and for everyone, because it’s a fun way to celebrate the holidays. “
This year’s event is from Thursday December 6 to Sunday December 9; Thursday December 13 – Sunday December 16; and from Thursday December 20 to Saturday December 22.
The hours are from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. each day.
The “Nights of a Thousand Candles” began as a two-day event in 1999, with around 5,000 people in attendance. It has been expanded to a 10-day event, and this year it has grown to an 11-day event. Last year, 53,000 people participated.
With over 4,500 hand-lit candles and twinkling lights, the ambiance, added to the entertainment, food and beauty of the gardens, makes it an unforgettable experience.
“With the food and the entertainment, it’s all there, and you don’t have to go anywhere else,” Joseph said.
“It’s a big event, and something we can give to the community every year.
Named “Best Christmas Lights in South Carolina” by Travel + Leisure magazine, the event is also the winner of the Charles A. Bundy Award for Tourism Excellence from South Carolina Parks Recreation and Tourism.
Tickets, which must be purchased prior to arrival, are non-refundable.
Ticket prices for members are $ 20 for adults and $ 12 for children. Non-member tickets cost $ 25 for adults and $ 15 for children.

Even before the start of “Nuits aux mille bougies”, a special preview evening will take place from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm on December 1st.
A limited number of tickets will be available for the preview evening, which will benefit the educational programs of the Gardens.
The $ 100 preview tickets include hor dourves, drinks and entertainment from harpist Rebecca Nissen, the Saltwater Chamber Orchestra and the Beach Brass Quintet.
“If you want a more intimate time with a smaller crowd, the Night of a Thousand Candles fundraiser will be a fun time,” said Joseph.
She said there was always something new at “Nights of a Thousand Candles,” thanks to Jon McGann, public exhibition production and logistics manager.
Returning this year, last year’s display of wine bottles in the arboretum, which Joseph says quickly became a favorite.
And, she says, visitors can look forward to new additions this year to add to the festivities.
And because new things are continually being added to the event, she said, “When people say they’ve been to ‘Nights of a Thousand Candles’ before, I tell them that just like the rest of Brookgreen Gardens, it is constantly changing always amazing.
And, you never know, someone might just ask you to marry them.
