Italy must take more action on reforms – Gentiloni – English
(ANSA) – ROME, MARCH 1 – European Economic Affairs Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni told an ANSA forum on Monday that Italy was doing a good job with its COVID-19 recovery plan while stressing that more work was needed on the proposed reforms.
He said the National Plan for Resilience and Recovery (PNRR) Italy has prepared to access more than € 200 billion in grants and low-interest loans from the Next Generation EU program is good at with regard to “major strategic objectives”.
“But there is still progress to be made, not only in terms of specifying investments and timeframes to achieve the objectives, but above all in terms of reforms,” added the former Italian prime minister. He said the reforms concerned “competition, civil justice delays, civil service efficiency and tax evasion.”
Gentiloni said no country was behind in preparing their respective stimulus plans and said he hoped that a 13% “pre-finance” quota could be allocated to at least some of the states in the country. ‘EU before summer. (ANSA).
