Bangladesh seaports were advised to hoist local warning signal number three as Cyclone Yaas weakened into a deep depression over northern Odisha and neighboring Jharkhand region in the morning.
The office met in a special bulletin Thursday said the seaports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been urged to maintain local warning signal number three.
The special bulletin, which is signed by Hafizur Rahman, meteorologist with the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, says the cyclone is likely to move further north-northwest and gradually weaken.
A steep pressure gradient persists over the northern bay and coastal areas of Bangladesh, he said, adding that the seas will remain rough.
Under the influence of a steep pressure gradient, the districts of Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Jhalakati, Pirojpur, Barguna, Patuakhali, Barishal, Bhola, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chandpur and Chattogram and their offshore islands and the tanks are likely to experience wind speeds of up to 50-60 km per hour in gusts or gusts, according to the bulletin.
All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay and the deep sea have been advised to stay in shelter until further notice.
